With the legalization of recreational marijuana in the State of New York, we have embarked upon a naturally grown product that serves to benefit its recipients with good health and overall wellness.

 

As the retail distribution of marijuana is expected to develop, it is estimated that sales in New York will be about $3.1b by 2025. The tax rate on marijuana is expected to be about 30-40% of that revenue, bringing roughly a new tax revenue of as much as $1.2b per year to New York. This tax revenue offsets lost tax income from declining cigarette sales throughout the state.

The science of cannabis is still yet unknown. We don’t completely understand why the plant provides so many health benefits ranging from chronic pain reduction, decreased blood pressure, stabilizing blood sugar levels, and offering extraordinary mental health improvements; but citizens are paying attention.

 

Recreational and medicinal use of cannabis is expected to increase by 400% by the year 2030 in the State of New York. This growing industry is credited with the creation of 60,000 new high paying jobs within the industry for New Yorkers.

 

New York’s farming and agricultural industries are losing money. The high cost of food production coupled with the short growing season in New York have stifled farmers into existing on a very modest income for what is very hard production.

 

Cannabis cultivation offers an alternative product for farmers that is much easier to maintain, requires less physical labor, and provides the farming business with a year-round product for income stability.

 

As marijuana is quite easy to grow and can be done in an extra room in a house or a basement, I am proposing that home-based growers licenses are provided for the average citizen to take part in this very lucrative market as a supplemental income to their primary careers.

 

Cannabis cultivation is a win-win for the State of New York and its citizens to economic prosperity.
